Spay Photographs and Explanation
After the patient is taken into surgery, it is draped with a sterile drape, much as human patients are, and the initial incision is made.
Shown here is the small mid-abdominal incision for the spay.
Then the muscle layer is cut in the exact center (linea). This is nearly free of blood vessles and so does not bleed.
Then the ovary on one side is brought to the outside with an instrument called a spay hook.
