  6. Pull the plunger back. Draw back beyond the desired dose and then expel the excess medication back into the bottle. If there are any air bubbles, tap the syringe and then return the medication back into the bottle and redraw.
Please pay particular attention to the drawing at the right to be sure that you understand how to read the correct dose.

  7. After removing the syringe from the bottle, hold it with the needle up and tap it with your finger to encourage any remaining bubbles to rise. - see photo 7. After all bubbles have risen, gently expel the air bubble by pushing the plunger upwards.
Recheck after this procedure to be sure you still have the correct amount of medication in the syringe.

  8. Recheck the syringe to be sure that you have the correct dose. It is extremely important that you make sure that you are giving the correct dose.

  9. Hold the syringe in your right or left hand - whichever is most comfortable for you. We suggest that you hold the syringe in the position shown in Photo 9. Don't put your thumb on the plunger until the needle is under the skin.

  10. Have someone help you hold your pet. Using your free hand take a fold of skin and make a "tent" of it. We suggest that you start by taking a fold of skin on the pet's shoulders and move the site of the injection by a few inches each day. A firm pinch will help to numb the area. By injecting quickly, you can minimize your pet's discomfort.

  11. Push the small needle through the skin with a smooth, quick motion, keeping the barrel roughly level with the fold, but with the needle angled downwards. The needle should enter the skin at an angle of 30 to 45 degrees to the body. Be sure that you only go through the skin. You are trying to get the point of the needle in the "door" of the "tent".

  12. Push the plunger all the way in with a smooth motion until all of the medicine has been injected.

  13. After the injection has been given, remove the needle with a smooth motion. Immediately cover the needle with the cap and lay it aside while you pet your pet for a moment or so. Be sure to properly dispose of the syringe. Your veterinarian will discuss disposal with you.
