Morkie and Pug

Ricky is a Morkie and Lucy is a Pug!

The Morkie is a cross between a Maltese and a Yorkie. They are also sometimes called Yorktese. This breed is not recognized at this point in time by the American Kennel Club. However, always keep in mind that the breeds that we now recognize as purebreds were once considered mixed breeds.

These little dogs should weigh between 4 and 9 pounds when fully grown and stand between 6 and 10 inches tall at the shoulder. Their colors can be black white, tan, or black and tan. They can be solid colored or have distinct marks. They are sturdy and well-proportioned with a sweet, lively expression.

The Morkie is an affectionate, devoted dog that does well with other household pets that they've been raised with. They form close bonds with their families and don't thrive if left alone or ignored. They quickly become bored and lonely and will bark and chew things. They do not respond to harsh training! The owner must be patient, consistent and firm! They can be quite stubborn.

Daily brushing is necessary to prevent mats and tangles in the long, silky, fine fur. Their size makes them ideal for living in small homes or apartments; however, they still need exercise and mental stimulation. A daily leashed walk and plenty of toys should keep them occupied.

Pugs are an amiable, confident, playful companion; but they can also be stubborn. They are generally willing to please; but, They also love to show off! These little guys are convinced that they are the "biggest dog on the block!"

Normally weighing less than 20 pounds and standing under 12 inches, Pugs do not handle either heat or cold well and should be considered a "House Pet". The short coat needs only occasional brushing, but the facial wrinkles need careful cleaning to prevent infections. They are prone to catching colds, so consider indoor exercise during cold weather.

They get along just fine with children and other dogs, but they may become jealous if either of the above get more attention than they do. They are notorious snorers!

We are pleased to welcome Ricky & Lucy to our practice!
