Buster is a German Shepherd-Pit Mix!
Studies have shown that mixed breed dogs tend to be average in size; but it's necessary to keep the size of the parents in mind when evaluating the eventual size of your puppy!
"Mother Nature" tends to breed for sturdiness, intelligence, playfulness, the ability to co-exist with other pets and people and longevity, so we can expect Buster to be healthy and sturdy. His short haired coat indicates that he won't need a great deal of grooming or special care; and his loving family intends for him to live indoors, so that shouldn't be any concern.
The German Shepherd is a large dog; weighing between 70 and 95 pounds and standing 22" to 26" tall. Daily mental and physical exercise is necessary to keep a German Shepherd fulfilled. On the other hand, Pit Bull's are very athletic and need a lot of exercise! They are very poor swimmers and have a low tolerance for cold weather.! This strong, agile dog is intelligent and "creative", often stubborn, and may be defensive around other dogs. They need daily mental and physical exercise to prevent them from thinking of mischief! !
Buster can be registered as a "Canine Companion"; which has now been recognized by the American Kennel Club and is happily accepted into their Obedience and Agility sporting events. Their scores are judged beside other dogs of their same height and age class. This is a most welcome happening for millions of "lost" pets in our nation's shelters!
