Ben is a Newfoundland!
The Newfoundland is a large dog! A master of long-distance swimming, he is used for lifesaving duties on the water where the heavy coat protects him from the cold. With true self possession and intelligence, today's Newfoundland competes in obedience, agility, water tests and other dog performance events.
The Newfoundland's history is less clear than some other breeds. Most versions have the breed originating in Newfoundland from ancestors that were brought there from Europe. Used as a working dog to drag the fishing nets to shore and to haul wood for the fires, this was a dog used to heavy labor.
The sweet disposition and docile appearance makes him attractive as a family dog; however, it must be remembered that this is a true working dog and will need daily exercise and regular brushing to maintain the plush coat. The coat may be brown, gray, black or black & white.
The adult Newfoundland dog is a devoted companion that may reach 28" tall and weigh up to 150 lbs with a heavy coat and a massive, broad head. The soft expression in the dark brown eyes and sweet temperament will easily make this a family favorite!
We are pleased to welcome Ben to our practice!
