Snickers is a Border Collie Mix!
The Border Collie is the ultimate sheepdog. Early in its history, sheepdogs differed in their herding styles. Some were noisy - barking and nipping at the heels of the sheep as they drove them in. Around 1870-75, the first sheepdog trial occurred & a dog named Hemp distinguished himself by herding the sheep by "staring" them into moving. He was subsequently used to father many litters & is considered to be the father of the modern Border Collie.
When the standard for the Border Collie was originally written, it was more concerned with their working ability than with the appearance of the dog; however, when the AKC admitted the dogs to the show ring, today’s standard for form was entered. They can be solid black, bi-colored, brown & white, black & white with rough or smooth textured coats. The coat will need twice-weekly brushing to maintain it.
This is a High-Energy Dog that is always waiting for its chance to be unleashed! Extremely intelligent & obedient, it can be a disaster if not trained & kept challenged!
Border Collies need a yard & aren’t really suited to apartment life. They should Not be considered an "outside" dog. They will need plenty of exercise and interaction with their master.
Most Border Collies stand between 18"-23" at the shoulder and weigh between 30-45 pounds.
We are pleased to welcome Snickers to our practice!
