Lou is a Maltese Mix!
The Maltese originated on the Greek island of Malta and is one of the most ancient breeds. They were worshiped in ancient Egypt and are mentioned in Greek writings as early as 300 B.C. and were widely traded throughout Europe. The dogs that remained on Malta, however, remained relatively true to the type that we see today.
This gentle lapdog, with its' long, silky hair originally came in other colors, but the AKC standard now calls for white. This spunky, energetic little dog loves to play and can be bold and feisty with other dogs. It can be exercised with a walk on leash. They can be picky eaters, but must not be encouraged to be so.
With its' small size - around 6 pounds and under 10 inches tall - it is not an outdoor dog. The long, cascading white coat must be combed daily, and a dog with a show coat may need to have it "wrapped" to prevent tangles and matting. Owners must exercise care not to spoil these little darlings or they may become jealous and anxious.
We are pleased to welcome Lou to our practice!
