Parsons Russell Terrier

Parsons Russell Terrier

Porkchop is a Parsons Russell Terrier!

The Parsons Russell Terrier traces its ancestry to white-bodied foxing terriers that were used for hunting fox. Throughout the 20th century, they were known as "Jack" Russell Terriers to honor the Reverend John "Jack" Russell who was a noted fox hunter of the 19th century. .

The Parsons Russell Terrier has v-shaped ears that fold forward, a narrow, moderately deep chest, strong, straight legs and a strong, rectangular muzzle. The tail set is rather high and usually docked to keep the tip about level with the skull. The round, catlike feet and the harsh double white coat with black, tan or grizzle markings distinguish this smaller dog. Height is usually 12 to 14 inches and weight is 14 to 18 pounds. Grooming is minimal. .

This intelligent dog is a merry, cheerful and loving. It is spirited and absolutely fearless. It enjoys playing with toys and can become quite willful if not given limitations to its behavior. This little dog frequently falls into the belief that he is the humans pack leader; causing behavior problems, such as guarding, obsessive barking and separation anxiety. .

An experienced firm trainer that establishes authority towards the dog will find the Parsons to be highly trainable and it has been used in the movies and on tv. They need a lot of socialization and have strong hunting instincts. They should not be left alone with smaller animals as they love to chase, run and dig. The Parsons Russell can climb and jump quite high; which means that a 12 inch Parsons can jump 5 feet and climb over a fence.

This is a Hunting Dog. They require a Lot of exercise to keep them happy! They are frequently seen in the Earth Dog or Agility sports.

We are pleased to welcome Porkchop to our practice!
