Coonhound Mix

Miley is a Coonhound Mix!

The Coonhound is a persistent, determined hunter who will follow the track in spite of the terrain or weather conditions. He absolutely excels at tracking other animals and people! They were originally bred from the Talbot Hound, the Foxhound and the Bloodhound to trail and tree raccoons. The Black and Tan Coonhound was the first coonhound to be considered a separate breed from the Foxhound and dates back to the late 1700's.

The Black and Tan Coonhound is outgoing and friendly & loves to be with his family and gets along very well with other dogs. Although they are calm and laid back around the house, they require vigorous daily exercise to prevent them from becoming a rambunctious handful. Training is extremely important to provide the owners with control over their innate instinct. An intelligent hunter, they need a firm, calm handler. If they are left alone they will follow whatever trail presents itself - wherever it goes!

The short coat will require minimal brushing and grooming. This is not a small dog!! They are working dogs that hunt large and small game. They can easily weigh over 85 pounds and are in need or hard physical exercise. they need an owner who will take them jogging, hunting, biking or hiking. There are several breeds: among them are the Black & Tan, the Bluetick Coonhound, Redbone Coonhound, Plott Hound and Treeing Walker Coonhound.

We are pleased to welcome Miley to our practice!
