Rorie is a Boxer!
The Boxer is a fairly recent entry to the world of dog breeds. It originated in the 19th century from breeding two now extinct breeds - the Brabenter Bullenbeiser and the Danziger Bullenbeiser. Those breeds were used in the sport of bull baiting and to chase large game from the woods, bite it and hang on until the hunter could dispatch the beast.
By necessity, they had a recessed nose so that they could breathe while holding on, strong jaws, and a lot of agility and tenacity. When the sport of bull-baiting was outlawed, the dogs were used to herd cattle in slaughter houses and as police and military dogs.
Boxers are devoted and attentative to their families, playful and exuberant. They need an active family and plenty of exercise. They are not suited to living outdoors and don't do well in hot weather because of their nasal structure.
The smooth, sleek coat needs only occasional brushing. This is a big dog that will stand nearly 25" tall and weigh up to 80 pounds. While it will gladly share an apartment with its family, it will do best with a house and yard.
We are pleased to welcome Rorie to our practice!
