Lacy is a Weimaraner!
The Weimaraner is a member of the sporting group. This is another dog that originated in Germany in an attempt to find the perfect hunting companion for deer and bear. The breeding program was sponsored by the court of Weimar, so the dogs became known as Weimar Pointers. Its ancestors include Bloodhounds, Red Schweisshunds and several pointing breeds. The distinctive gray color has been part of the breed from the beginning.
These dogs were considered to be so exclusive that they destroyed the pups from any non-sanctioned breedings and anyone who wasn't a member of the German Weimaraner Club wasn't allowed to buy one. An American finally gained entry to the club and brought a breeding pair to the states in 1929.
Weimaraners are usually 23" to 27" tall and weigh between 55 - 90 pounds. They have been bred to hunt and run fast and they have a lot of energy, are bold and can be overwhelming for small children. They are quick learners, but can become stubborn, headstrong and demanding of your attention. They need a lot of exercise.
The short, gray, sleek coat needs little maintenance beyond weekly brushing. They don't do well as outdoor dogs, as they crave human companionship
We are pleased to welcome Lacy to our practice!
