Buddy is a Cairn Terrier!

These little terriers originated in Scotland during the 15th century where they were expecially good at scaring otters out the piles of stone called cairns that were used as landmarks. It was one of a group of terriers called Scotch Terriers that was later subdivided into Skye terriers and Dandie Dinmonts. This little hard-haired dog is best known as the dog Toto from Wizard of Oz.

This is a hardy, active little terrier. It’s inquisitive, spirited, scrappy and bold. It’s responsive to its owner and is a good house pet. It does love to dig and chase small animals, and needs a lot of daily mental and physical exercise in a fenced, safe area.

The wirey coat needs weekly combing and occasional stripping. Its weight should be less than 14 pounds to keep from overwhelming the short, small frame.
