Great Pyrenees

Cassie is a Great Pyrenees!

The Great Pyrenees is a member of the working dog group. Their linage can be traced back to around 10,000 BC and the large, white herding dogs of the nomadic shepherds in Asia. Around 3000 BC they were brought into Europe and down into France where they were used to guard fortresses and castles. They came to America in the early 1800’s and has earned a reputation as a reliable guardian of livestock, particularly sheep.

This devoted family member is calm, serious and well-mannered around the home. It’s usually very gentle with it’s own family. At 115 pounds and 32" tall, it can be an imposing guardian that is quite wary of strangers. It may attempt to dominate its family.

The heavy coat allows it to spend a lot of time outdoors, but it prefers to be with its family. It suffers from the heat during the summer and the coat needs regular brushing, especially during shedding.

We are pleased to welcome Cassie to our practice!
