Paige is an Australian Cattle Dog!
The Australian Cattle Dog can trace its lineage to a large number of other breeds; Highland Collies, Bull Terriers, Dalmatians, and Black and Tan Kelpies. The most influential breed introduced was the Australian Dingo.
This produced a dog that could travel long distances in the heat and rough terrain of the Australian Outback to control cattle that were so wild that other herding breeds couldn’t handle them. The Cattle Dog was particularly prized for its ability to control the wild cattle without barking, which would serve to panic them and cause greater problems.
This is a hardy independent dog. It’s intelligent, energetic and tenacious. It absolutely must have a job to do. It needs vigorous mental and physical exercise and is quite responsive to it. When playing with running children, it may nip at their heels. It does best in a home with a yard. The coat on this medium-sized dog – (40 pounds and 17-20 inches tall) - will need weekly brushing and grooming.
We are pleased to welcome Paige to our practice!
