Smore is a Saint Bernard!
These massive dogs arrived in Switzerland from Russia in the 1600's. They were originally used to pull carts and turn spits, but the monks soon learned of their ability to find and help lost travelers. (No - not with a little keg around their neck - as per cartoons! They would lay down beside the lost person until help arrived)
These magnificent animals are related to the Mastiffs and may have been used by the Romans to pull carts and guard camps. Saint Bernards are typically calm and easygoing; devoted to their families and willing to please.
St. Bernards need daily exercise, although they can be incredibly stubborn about joining in. Dogs that are kept indoors are prone to overweight and need access to cooler, outdoor temperatures. They will need regular grooming.
This is a large, powerful dog that can weigh up to 200 pounds. The coat can be smooth, dense and tough or long and wavy. The males are around 28" tall and the females slightly smaller at 25". The St. Bernard lives around 8-10 years.
We are pleased to welcome Smore to our practice!
