The Shih Tzu originated in China, during the Ming dynasty, where they were bred to be lapdogs for the royal family. This vivacious little dog loves to play and romp; and it needs daily exercise. Their upbeat attitude and love of playing has kept them popular today.

This gentle lapdog generally weighs less than 15 pounds and stands less than 10 inches tall. They are sometimes called " Chrysanthemum dogs " dogs because of the way the fur on their heads lays like a Chrysanthemum flower.
