Hagrid and Hermione are Labradoodles!

The Labradoodle is created by crossing a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle with the hopes of obtaining the best of both breeds. It shouldn’t be difficult with this combination: the Labrador and the Poodle both love the water, are intelligent, eager-to-please, love to play and are eager to learn. Their common hunting and swimming background predicts a willing companion.

Both of these animals average around 50-60 pounds and stand about 22-25 inches tall, so the Labradoodle should be about the same size. The Lab comes in brown, black or gold and the Poodle is any solid color. Most Labradoodles grow the Poodle coat, although some don’t. Those with the Poodle coat will need regular grooming and an indoor home to prevent mats.

Labradoodles will probably need a regular training program that gives them mental stimulation or they will become bored and find alternate methods to fill their time. They should be active, playful, amiable dogs that need plenty of exercise to prevent gaining weight as they grow older.
