turtles A turtle is a reptile. It should feel solid and heavy for its size. When selecting, notice if the turtles are active, or are they pulled into their shell? There shouldn't be any lumps, redness, cuts or little holes on the skin. The eyes should be open and bright.

Does the store provide a pamphlet with purchase? Is there an inexpensive booklet available?

If you find your turtle in the wild, it may not be happy in captivity. There are captive-bred turtles available from breeders. You can find the addresses in the advertising sections of reptile magazines.
