Persian Cats

Persians have long flowing coats and open pansy-like faces. They usually have gentle, personalities that will blend into most households.

image of Persian CatsThe Persian is a creature of habit and distains change. They are most comfortable in an atmosphere that is calm and secure, but with patience and reassurance, they can adapt to a boisterous household. It does take them a while to feel secure in a new environment.

They have a quiet, melodious voice that is pleasant to hear and they are quite able to communicate with their large expressive eyes.

The Persian's long coat does require an indoor, protected environment, with daily grooming to prevent hairballs and tangles. It is advised that the owners of a Persian start a routine of daily grooming and an occasional bath while the Persian is still a kitten. Regular trimming of the nails is also recommended.

Please check our Basic cat care handout for a cat's basic needs.

A Persian cat needs an indoor environment. They can live in an apartment, small home or large home. They are not recommended for "outdoor" cats.
