Energetic and Playful, or Calm and Cuddly Pets | |||||||||
|
Some breeds of dog and most cats will be happy to play with their human owners. Guinea Pigs will play on the wheels and other toys that are placed in their cages. If you want a pet that plays with you, you need to select a breed that's known for its playfulness. Some examples are the retrievers, some terriers and many of the companion dogs. Owners of Siamese cats report a lot of playfulness in their pets. Other pets are known for their desire to cuddle and have a reputation for being more calm. The Persian and Himalayan cats are usually a calm sedate pet that loves to cuddle and sit on a lap. The Newfoundland dog is known for its calmness. The smaller breed dogs, in particular the terriers tend to be more excitable and playful. This doesn't explain the retrievers, who seem to want to always play. Whether your pet will be energetic or calm and docile will be affected by its physical condition, weight, and environment since birth. If you play with your puppy on an ongoing basis, it will stay healthier and its expectation that you'll play with it will remain high. Small puppies and kittens need a lot of handling and cuddling for them to desire that treatment as they get older. If they're treated roughly as babies, they will naturally be wary of the treatment as they become adults. Most important! Every puppy and kitten has it's own personality. Most are friendly and loving, however, not all are! It is the responsibility of the adults in a household to ensure the protection of the human children by being alert to the personality of their pets.
