Spaniels

The group of dogs knows as Spaniels is quite varied. It includes Cocker Spaniels, Clumber Spaniels, Field Spaniels and English Springer Spaniels, - to only name a few. These dogs were originally bred to be sporting companions, of the group known as gundogs.

image of spaniel dogsThey are known for their friendly dispositions, however, they need a great deal of exercise. Most have long, water-resistant coats. Some of the coats are straight while others are curly.

Spaniels can range in size from the 14 inch tall Cocker Spaniel to the 23 inch tall Irish Water Spaniel. The Cocker will weigh around 25 pounds and the Clumber Spaniel can weigh 80 pounds.

Most Spaniels make excellent family companions and would be happy to share your home. They do need exercise and are better suited to families that can provide this. The larger spaniels will need larger home.
