Heat Stroke!

The signs of heartstroke include any of the following:

  • exaggerated panting
  • rapid or erratic pulse
  • drooling
  • anxious or staring expression
  • trembling
  • stumbling or lack of coordination
  • red lips and tongue, which may eventually turn bluish
  • convulsions or vomiting
    • collapse
      • coma
        • Death

Immediately:

  • move the animal to a cool, shady place
  • wet the dog with cool water
  • fan the dog to increase evaporation
  • do not apply ice, it may constrict the blood vessels
  • encourage the dog to drink cool water or eat crushed ice/water

    • Take the dog immediately to your veterinarian. If they're closed, go to the emergency clinic!
