Common Home First Aid Treatments

Problem Remedy
Cuts Apply pressure to stop bleeding, clean with soap & water. Apply Neosporin.
For deep cuts, or profuse bleeding - seek veterinary attention immediately.
Broken Bones See veterinarian immediately.
Vomiting/
Diarrhea
Withhold food for 24 hours; offer ice only until vomiting stops; Pepto-Bismol -- give (1 tablespoon/30 pounds of body weight) every 4-6 hours.
Seizure If it lasts more than 5 minutes, seek veterinary attention immediately.
Bee stings Benadryl - 1 mg. per # (pound) - every 12 hours
Itching Benadryl - 1 mg. per # (pound) - every 12 hours
Itching eyes Boric Acid or Saline rinse.
Itching ears Rinse with mixture of 50% white vinegar & 50% alcohol (79%); Apply Neosporin.
Straining to urinate Seek veterinary attention.
Lameness
(Dogs)
1 Aspirin (325 Mg.) - for each 30 lbs. of body weight - every 12 hours.
Caution Never give to Cats -- Aspirin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen
Never give to Dogs -- Ibuprofen
Caution Any illness lasting more than 2 days -- have pet examined by your veterinarian.
